Imphal: Ngangom Uttam Singh, Joint Secretary of the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department, recently emphasized that true societal progress relies more on human resource development than the construction of roads and bridges. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for successful HSLC Examination 2026 students at Pourabi Community Hall, he noted that wealth lacks value if individuals do not utilize it with wisdom and purpose.
Singh urged students to expand their perspectives by reading literature beyond their standard textbooks. He also highlighted the role of parents in fostering a value-based upbringing, stating: "A happy and developed society can be built only when individuals possess the ability to think constructively and contribute positively."
The event honored 22 students from Gem Public School who passed with distinction, while teachers received cash incentives for their students' academic achievements. Organised by the Modhu and Sanahanbi Memorial Trust, Gem Public School, and local students, the program included cultural performances and informative sessions on healthcare initiatives like CMHT, PMJAY, and the ABHA Card scheme.
The gathering hosted various community leaders, including Dr. Sarangthem Ibomcha of the 8th IRB, Health Services Director Dr. N. Hemantakumar, and representatives from the Assam Rifles and local banking sectors. The ceremony concluded by celebrating the collective contribution of educators and students toward building a stronger, more informed society.
