Shillong: The HSPDP Youth Wing is pushing the state government to bring the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project into Nongstoin. Local talent in West Khasi Hills is currently starving for cash and venues. Musicians there have no steady platform to grow.
HSPDP Youth Wing president Korbarlang Syiemlieh and secretary Pynshai Joel Dkhar sent a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding action. They noted that local performers and the Ge Thymmei u Mulliang Society currently struggle to fund their own shows. A recent June 27 concert at Nongpyndeng proved the demand is high, but the crowd spilled over while organizers ran out of resources to host more acts.
The group claims artists are now pleading for help on social media. They believe the state must step in. According to the letter, the government must expand the initiative to the district to ensure local musicians have a sustained platform to perform and promote their work.
The MGMP already boosts talent in Shillong and other regions. The youth wing insists it is time for West Khasi Hills to get the same backing.
