Shillong: Hyniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation leaders met with Border Security Force officials in Shillong on September 1. They want more jobs for local youth. HITO president Donbok Dkhar handed a memorandum to Inspector General OP Upadhyay demanding a special recruitment drive for residents living near the frontier.
Dkhar claims these hires will fix local unemployment and bolster national defense. The group also wants tighter security to block Bangladeshi nationals from entering through porous stretches. Coordination between the BSF, state police, and locals remains a priority. HITO members recently caught suspected illegal entrants themselves. They turned four people over to the Sadar Police Station on April 3, 2025. Another three were delivered to the Mawryngkneng Police Station on August 27, 2026.
The memorandum insists on better patrolling and intelligence operations. Dkhar told the BSF that "providing these opportunities would address unemployment and allow locals to contribute directly to national security." The group now expects the BSF to lobby the Ministry of Home Affairs to secure all gaps along the Meghalaya sector.
