Shillong: Three women from Hima Langrin Syiemship filed a formal complaint at Ranikor Police Station on August 5. They accused two men of using abusive language and making threats on social media. The complainants are Blutiful Syiemiong, Macbidarose Syiemiong, and Bhalin Thyrniang. The suspects go by the names Aiborlang Mawlong id7kn and @bahnahmasynting9544.
Trouble started in the comments section of a local YouTube channel. The three women had publicly called out a different YouTuber, PS Lyngdoh, for his disrespectful comments. That sparked a wave of vitriol from the accused. The victims delivered copies of their complaint to the District Social Welfare Officer in Mawkyrwat and the Sub-Divisional Officer of Ranikor Civil Sub-Division. They want the men arrested and prosecuted.
The FIR states: "Such comments are no longer criticism; they are abuse and threats intended to intimidate us. This is a violation of women’s rights as well as human rights." Blutiful Syiemiong spoke to reporters after filing the paperwork. She described the posts as dehumanizing, noting that the suspects treated women "as animals rather than human beings." She warned the public to check facts and consider the consequences before posting online to avoid finding themselves in similar legal trouble.
