Guwahati: The Guwahati Traffic Police has implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan for the Ambubachi Mahayog 2026, scheduled from June 22 to June 26 at the Maa Kamakhya Temple. The regulations focus on managing the expected surge in pilgrims, minimizing congestion, and ensuring emergency access near Nilachal Hills.

Under the new rules, all general vehicular traffic from the Kamakhya foothills toward the temple is prohibited. Exceptions are made for emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, fire services, and oxygen carriers, which retain unrestricted access. Critical supply vehicles, including those carrying drinking water, are limited to the night hours between 11 pm and 5 am. Only vehicles with valid administrative passes and designated ferry services may travel from Pandu Temple Ghat to the temple via Bangshibagan.

Devotees arriving from Jalukbari and Bharalumukh must use service lanes near the Nilachal Flyover for passenger drop-offs before moving to parking sites at Adabari Bus Stand, Boripara Field, ITA Machkhowa, and Idgah Field. Officials have mandated strict parking rules, noting that "roadside parking has been completely prohibited along major corridors such as Pandu Port Road, Borbazar Road, DG Road, the elevated stretch at Bharalumukh, and sections of Nilachal Flyover."

Goods carriers and slow-moving vehicles face restrictions on key roads like MG Road and AT Road from 5 am to 11 pm. Long-distance buses will be diverted from the city center, while shuttle services will assist pilgrims traveling from Kamakhya Railway Station to holding camps. Air travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and utilize the NH-27 route to reach Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to avoid festival-related delays.
