Guwahati: Guwahati is turning concrete into green space. Workers started installing a vertical garden under the Bhagadatta Flyover in the Supermarket area this week. The project aims to dress up flyover pillars with ornamental plants and green structures to cut down on road dust.

City officials want a better microclimate. This busy traffic corridor serves as the testing ground for a wider plan. The city intends to build more than 20 vertical gardens at various public spots. These sites will be chosen in phases to ensure the plan hits the mark.

The price tag hits 25 crore. Officials said, "The initiative is designed to improve the city's visual appeal while contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing dust and enhancing the local microclimate."

Success at the Bhagadatta site decides the future. Authorities will review the results before moving to the next locations. They want to prove that green infrastructure works during rapid urban growth.
