Guwahati: The Guwahati Traffic Police has released a comprehensive management plan for the Ambubachi Mela, scheduled for June 22 to 26 at the Kamakhya Temple. These measures aim to prioritize the safety of pilgrims and ensure clear paths for emergency services during the busy religious event.
Private vehicles are prohibited from traveling from the Kamakhya foothill toward the temple. Authorities have granted exemptions to emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, fire tenders, and those carrying life-saving supplies. Vehicles transporting essential items like water will have restricted access between 11 pm and 5 am. According to the official notification, "Vehicles transporting water pouches, containers, and other essential supplies will be permitted to travel up to the temple between 11 pm and 5 am."
Devotees arriving by vehicle from the Jalukbari side must drop passengers near the N.F. Railway headquarters before moving to parking facilities at Adabari and Boripara. Similar arrangements are in place for those approaching from Bharalumukh. General traffic, including ASTC buses and private cars, must use the Nilachal Flyover to avoid congestion in service lanes.
Commercial goods vehicles and carts face strict operational bans on major roads, including MG Road and AT Road, from 5 am to 11 pm throughout the festival. Travelers heading to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport should plan ahead and utilize NH-27 to avoid these restricted zones. Roadside parking is strictly prohibited on key transit routes to maintain traffic flow for the duration of the mela.
