Guwahati: Traffic authorities in Guwahati have launched a new road safety initiative requiring all Green Bus operators to display their driving licences on the front windshield of their vehicles. This measure aims to increase individual driver accountability following a series of traffic violations involving these government-operated buses.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic, Jayanta Sarathi Bora, explained that the decision followed a District Road Safety Committee meeting. He stated, "The committee approved the mandatory display of driving licences so that drivers can be easily identified during enforcement operations."

Under this system, officers can quickly verify a driver's identity during a traffic stop. By photographing the displayed licence and sharing it with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation or the Assam State Transport Corporation, authorities can initiate disciplinary action against specific operators who violate traffic laws. Officials report that the move has already led to more responsible driving and will remain a key part of the city's strategy to enhance commuter safety.
