Garo Hills officials shut down 100 illegal shops

Shillong: Stevie M Marak shut down over 100 shops along the Assam border on Tuesday. The Deputy CEM of the Garo Hills Autonomous Council targeted businesses in Bansali, Mir Jumla, Chandamari, and Chon-donpara. The crackdown focused on checking Trading by Non-Tribals licences and No Objection Certificates.

Marak, an NPP MDC for Boldamgre, led the inspections himself. He confirmed the operation aims to enforce regional law across the district. Similar raids are coming. He stated that "similar operations will be conducted across Garo Hills to ensure all businesses comply with regional regulations."

The council expects full cooperation from shop owners moving forward. Officials are scrubbing business records to catch rule-breakers. No shop stays open without the right paperwork.
