Itanagar: A landslide crushed a worker camp at the D and L Stone Crusher Plant on June 25. The slide hit at 4:30 pm near the Keyi Panyor Welcome Gate. Four labourers were injured while they slept. Co-workers dug out the victims before emergency crews could get there. The victims suffered broken bones and head trauma. One worker remains in critical condition with chest pain.
Rescuers face a tough trek. Mobile signals are dead in the area. Official communication relies on people walking to spots with coverage. Reaching the site from Keyi Panyor is impossible due to 12 kilometres of blocked terrain. Teams are now approaching from the Hoj side in Papum Pare district, where the hike is only 5 kilometres.
Dr. Kajing Borang and Nursing Assistant Tok Apa lead the medical response. The 12th Battalion of the NDRF joined the mission to assist with evacuation. The NDRF team includes 11 personnel led by Commandant Dr. Atul. The group left Itanagar for Hoj on the morning of June 26. A local guide is helping them reach the site. Officials noted that "the 12th Battalion of the NDRF was also mobilised to provide medical assistance and support any evacuation required based on the attending doctor's assessment."
