Four Regional Leaders Arrested in Assam Extortion and Kidnapping Case

Guwahati: Police in Duliajan arrested four prominent leaders from various regional organizations on June 14 in connection with an extortion and kidnapping case. The suspects are accused of targeting an official working for Udipta Energy and Equipment Private Limited, a contractor for Oil India Limited.

The arrested individuals include Rintu Dutta and Manas Pratim Gohain of the Bir Lachit Sena, Kankan Rajkonwar of the Tai Ahom Students Union, and Binod Kumar Sonowal of the Sonowal Kachari Yuba Mancha. Authorities began the investigation after the victim, Uttamjyoti Bora, was abducted on May 10.

Investigators stated that the victim was held against his will and suffered physical assault while the group demanded money for his release. Police confirmed that collected evidence points to the direct involvement of these four suspects. Two other individuals were previously arrested in the same case. As the investigation continues, officials noted that, "evidence collected during the investigation indicated the direct involvement of the four accused in the alleged crime, following which they were taken into custody."
