Four Killed in Border Village Attack as Naga Village Guard Vows Response

Imphal: An armed assault in the Kamjong district village of Kultuh resulted in four deaths and the destruction of more than 15 houses on June 11. The Eastern Command of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) reported that the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) carried out the early morning attack, which also left two villagers injured.

The violence reportedly stems from a territorial dispute along the Indo-Myanmar border between the Kuki National Front-President and the KNA-B. Reports indicate the conflict is further linked to allegations regarding the non-payment of taxes related to the narco trade.

NVG personnel patrolling the border arrived at the village at 3:30 a.m. to protect residents, leading to a 20-minute gun battle. During the exchange, one NVG member was injured. This incident follows earlier reported attacks on Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee villages on May 7, which the NVG also attributed to the KNA-B and cross-border allies.

The NVG condemned the violence and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Reaffirming their stance on regional security, the organization stated, "The Naga Village Guard stands committed to defend our land, identity and people against any external threats," while warning that future aggression will face a strong response.
