Imphal: Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda officially launched her campaign for the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections on Sunday, June 21. She announced her candidacy for the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency during a gathering held at her private residence.
Surrounded by local supporters and residents, Brinda framed her entry into electoral politics as a mission to improve governance and focus on societal interests. She emphasized the need for a representative who remains reachable to constituents and serves the public good rather than narrow political agendas.
Addressing the influence of capital in state politics, Brinda acknowledged she lacks the resources often used in local campaigns. She told the crowd, "I do not have money or muscle power, which are common mechanisms to win elections. However, I believe there are people who truly understand the value of democracy. Kindly support me to reach that lawmaking platform."
While the announcement signals a new phase of activity in the Yaiskul constituency, Brinda has yet to reveal which political party or platform she will represent. She previously ran for the seat in 2022, losing to the incumbent BJP candidate and current Manipur Assembly Speaker, Thokchom Satyabrata Singh.
