Shillong: Former leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union called on the newly elected Central Executive Committee to remain resolute in their efforts to protect the interests of the Khasi community. The call to action occurred during the oath-taking ceremony held Saturday at the Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.
Former KSU president Lambokstar Marngar emphasized that resilience and sacrifice are essential components of the union's identity. He encouraged the incoming officials to stay united and resist the influence of financial gain or political power. Reflecting on his own 28 years of service, Marngar insisted that dedication to the union is a lifelong commitment. He told the new leadership, “The jail is the university of every KSU member. It teaches one to sacrifice for the present generation and to secure the future of the community.”
NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa, who administered the oath, highlighted the union's ability to renew itself as it approaches its 50th anniversary in two years. Jyrwa warned that rising social divisions, such as the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, demonstrate why the organization must remain vigilant. He urged both the union and the public to stay alert against threats to the unity of indigenous groups.
Former general secretary Donald V. Thabah also spoke at the event. He shared his personal experiences with the new leadership and encouraged them to continue working tirelessly to safeguard the state and its people.
