Imphal: The Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister, routed through the Governor of Manipur, demanding an immediate and impartial investigation into the arson incident that occurred at Kanto Sabal, Leimakhong, on 11 July 2026.
In the memorandum dated 14 July 2026, the FNCC stated that three residential houses were completely reduced to ashes in the incident, which took place immediately outside the gate of the Headquarters of the 57 Mountain Division of the Indian Army. The organisation noted that the area falls under significant security presence and that the incident has caused widespread concern among the local population.
The FNCC has put forward six specific demands before the Government of India:
- Order an immediate, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the arson incident of 11 July 2026;
- Identify and prosecute all those responsible in accordance with the law;
- Review and strengthen security arrangements in and around Kanto Sabal and Leimakhong to prevent similar incidents;
- Conduct a comprehensive review of any security lapses and implement appropriate corrective measures;
- Enhance coordination among the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and the Manipur Police;
- Provide appropriate relief and rehabilitation to the affected families.
The memorandum, signed by FNCC Convenor N.G. Akhiu and Secretary S. Robin, emphasised that swift and decisive action is essential to ensure accountability, restore public confidence, and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to the safety and security of citizens.
Copies of the memorandum have been marked to the Raksha Mantri, the Chief of the Army Staff, the Chief Secretary of the Government of Manipur, the Director General of Police, Manipur, and the General Officer Commanding, 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong.
