Agartala: Torrential rain drowned Tripura over the last two days. The deluge sparked flash floods and landslides, paralyzing all eight districts. Rivers are surging. Water is rising. The state administration scrambled emergency teams to rescue people trapped by the floodwaters.
Nearly 300 houses lie in ruins. Over 3,100 residents abandoned their homes to seek safety in state-run relief camps. Officials are providing food to displaced families and milk to children. Medical teams now patrol the camps to manage health risks as waters spread into new territory.
Dhalai, Khowai, and Gomati districts took the hardest hit. Landslides slammed into the Assam-Agartala National Highway near Mogpara. Officials confirmed the damage, stating that "the Khowai, Dhalai, Manu, Muhuri, Deo, and Bijoy rivers are flowing above the expected flood level." The Manu River pushed past its danger mark.
Agartala streets are underwater. Traffic is at a standstill. Erosion shredded parts of state and national highways, isolating remote villages. The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for the state. Forecasters expect more heavy rain to hammer the region for the next 24 hours.
