Flash Floods Swamp Assam's Chirang District

Guwahati: Torrential rain slammed into Assam on Monday. The downpour started at midnight, triggering flash floods across the Chirang district. By morning, water had surged through the Panbari area. At least 15 families now face rising floodwaters. The situation is dire.

Bijoypur village took the hardest hit. Floodwaters pushed into homes and left families trapped as the tide refused to drop throughout the day. Locals say the water rose rapidly after hours of non-stop rain. The flood ruined household goods and choked off local roads, killing connectivity in the region.

Disaster response teams remain absent. Frustrated locals claim they have seen no help since the rains began. The affected families issued an urgent plea for support. They told the district administration they need "immediate rescue and relief assistance, including food, drinking water and other essential supplies."

Chirang remains a high-risk zone for monsoon damage. Flash floods and waterlogging regularly strike these vulnerable villages. Residents are now demanding swift evacuations to prevent further tragedy as the rain continues to fall.
