Guwahati: Heavy rain slammed into Jorabat on Sunday. Flash floods turned the 9th and 10th Mile stretches into rivers, trapping cars and stalling commuters for hours along the Guwahati-Shillong road. Vehicles sat half-submerged in the muck while drivers struggled to find a way through the rising tide.

The Guwahati Traffic Police stepped in to manage the chaos. They ordered immediate diversions to keep the roads clear and drivers safe. Officials stated, "Due to severe waterlogging at 9th Mile and 10th Mile, traffic diversions have been implemented with immediate effect."

Light vehicles heading into the city face diversions at Digaru. Outbound traffic must now use Koinadhara Point. Anyone driving toward Upper Assam should stick to the Narengi route for the time being. Flooding remains a persistent headache for this stretch of road every time the skies open up. Police expect the gridlock to last until the water drains away.
