Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Visit Meghalaya for Development Projects

Shillong: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Meghalaya for a two day visit starting June 19. Her itinerary focuses on inspecting infrastructure development and highlighting the impact of externally aided projects across the region.

The visit begins at the Bhoirymbong facility in the Ri Bhoi District, where the minister will inaugurate the largest organic spice processing plant in the North East. Managed by the Eastern Ri Bhoi Organic Farmer Producer Company, the facility marks a significant boost for local agriculture. Later that afternoon, Sitharaman will appear at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong to discuss the progress of various funding initiatives. During this event, she is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a new project valued at Rs 1,200 crore.

On June 20, the focus shifts to the West Jaintia Hills. The minister will host an interactive session with students at Kiang Nangbah Government College in Jowai. Following this engagement, she will head to the Khliehtyrshi Primary Health Centre for an official inauguration. The state government stated the visit aims to "explore ways to strengthen the implementation of EAPs across the North Eastern region."
