Family buries woman found in Imphal canal

Imphal: The family of 25-year-old Thokchom Anjali Leima buried her yesterday. Her body surfaced in the Singjapokpi canal on June 6. She had been missing since May 23. The young mother left behind one daughter and one son.

Police from Sekmai station reached the water on the day the body was found. Strong currents forced them to wait. They eventually pulled her from the canal with help from the Leimakhong police. Her husband, Th. Herojit Meitei, identified the remains as his wife, also known as Thoibinao.

Doctors at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences performed a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. Officials processed the legal paperwork quickly. They released the remains to the relatives at the RIMS mortuary. The family took her home to Kakching district for her final rites.
