Imphal: Families identified four of the six bodies recovered on June 10 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary in Imphal. The victims are believed to be Liangmai Naga men who were abducted on May 13. Officials indicated that DNA testing may be necessary to confirm the identities of the remaining two victims, as the bodies were discovered in an advanced state of decomposition.

A family member described the scene at the mortuary, noting that the condition of the victims made standard identification difficult. Describing the remains, he stated, "The bodies were butchered and beheaded. We could not identify them through facial features as the remains were badly mutilated." Relatives relied on personal belongings and clothing to assist in the process. Some family members alleged that one victim was found with his hands tied and complained that authorities failed to disclose the specific recovery location of the bodies.

D. Adam Liangmai, the chairman of Konsakhul, condemned the violence and questioned why these individuals were killed while 14 Kuki hostages abducted during the same period were released safely. Manipur Home Minister K. Govindas visited the facility and labeled the incident a heinous crime against humanity. He promised that police would arrest the perpetrators soon.

Inspector General of Manipur Police Ningshen Worngam confirmed that the National Investigation Agency has taken over the case, with local police providing support. The remains were initially located following a search operation involving 450 security personnel.
