Kohima: The College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie hosted a scientific workshop on June 16 dedicated to the conservation of indigenous cow breeds. Dr. I Shakuntala, Dean of the college, opened the session by stressing the necessity of these breeds for maintaining rural livelihoods. He stated, "He underscored the role of native breeds in maintaining biodiversity and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability."

Field-level progress was highlighted by Dr. Kedozul Ltu of the Nagaland Livestock Development Board. He discussed how the state is using community-led initiatives and institutional support to promote indigenous livestock across the region. Following the expert presentations, a panel discussion allowed researchers and stakeholders to share strategies for future implementation. The event concluded with a formal commitment from all attendees to prioritize the conservation of local cattle populations.
