Imphal: The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts partnered with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade to host a virtual training session for artisans and entrepreneurs in Manipur. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between local craftsmanship and international trade by clarifying export documentation, market access requirements, and government support schemes.
Bhaskar Baruah, Export Promotion Officer at the EPCH North Eastern Regional Office, opened the event by emphasizing the state's unique creative sector. He noted that items like handwoven textiles, bamboo crafts, and traditional black pottery hold significant value abroad. He told attendees, "He encouraged local artisans and entrepreneurs to tap into the global market for handmade and sustainable products."
Technical guidance was provided by Abhishek Anand of the DGFT, who detailed the essential steps for obtaining an Import Export Code and navigating digital trade platforms. The session covered core business skills including branding, quality standards, and buyer sourcing to help small-scale producers compete on a global stage.
Approximately 40 participants took part in the workshop, engaging in discussions about scaling their businesses. This program is part of a broader push by the EPCH to integrate North Eastern producers into India's formal export ecosystem through ongoing policy support and digital education.
