Imphal: Environmental and climate activist Jojo Robertson led an awareness campaign today in Yeasom village, located in Manipur's Kamjong district. The event brought together village authority members, local youth, and women to address the growing risks of climate change and environmental degradation in the region.

Robertson attributed local issues like floods, extreme heatwaves, and declining land fertility to human interference. He warned that habitat loss and the spread of invasive species have disrupted the ecological balance, directly affecting local lives. During his address, he stated, "Invasive species have emerged, changing the ecological equilibrium and affecting human lives as a result."

The campaign coincided with a community initiative to clear roads along the Imphal to Kasom Khullen highway and plant new saplings. Robertson distributed 120 saplings to the residents and encouraged them to adopt sustainable practices, including a strict ban on hunting animals during their breeding seasons. He also highlighted the disappearance of native medicinal plants and the necessity of protecting fruit-bearing trees to support local wildlife.

Village authority member Chuimeishon Shimphrui thanked Robertson for the support and confirmed that Yeasom has already implemented local conservation measures, such as prohibiting the use of batteries for fishing. Shimphrui reiterated the importance of protecting the village's biodiversity and called for more educational programmes to ensure the land remains a healthy environment for future generations.
