Election Officials Fear Census Duties Will Slow Voter Work

Agartala: Election officials worry that pulling Booth Level Officers into the census will stall their daily work. These workers handle voter rolls and local election logistics every single day. The added burden of door-to-door census data collection leaves little time for their primary duties.

Staff feel stretched thin. The overlap threatens to compromise the accuracy of electoral records and stall registration drives. If officials cannot balance these massive tasks, voters may face delays in updating their status before the next trip to the polls.

Critics argue that keeping election staff focused remains the best move. As one official put it, "Engagement of BLOs in census exercise may hinder routine election works." The government has yet to explain how it intends to manage the heavy workload without hurting the integrity of the election machinery.
