Shillong: The East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya has officially launched preparations for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls for 2026. As a critical component of the state level Phase-III revision process, the district encompasses 17 Assembly constituencies and 1,021 polling stations that will undergo thorough scrutiny.

District officials have briefed political representatives on established timelines and verification protocols. To ensure transparency, booth-level officers are scheduled to conduct comprehensive house-to-house visits between June 30 and July 29. Furthermore, political parties have been instructed to appoint booth-level agents for each station to monitor the accuracy of the verification and claims process.

The administrative roadmap includes the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, with a window for filing claims and objections open until September 4. The final roll is slated for release on October 7. In alignment with Election Commission guidelines, the 2005 electoral roll will be utilized as the official legacy reference point throughout the duration of the drive.

To bolster the success of the exercise, the district administration is collaborating with local Dorbar Shnongs to raise awareness regarding upcoming house visits and voter list hearings. Authorities emphasized that robust public engagement and diligent field verification by electoral registration officers are essential to maintaining an inclusive and precise database for future elections.
