Dimapur Joint Council Forum Demands Ban on Heavy Trucks During Peak Hours

Kohima: The Joint Council Forum is pushing Dimapur traffic police to block heavy trucks from city streets during rush hour. Traffic is heavy. The group filed a formal request with the DCP of Traffic on August 14. They want these massive vehicles off main roads while students head to class and commuters clog the streets.

Drivers have ignored previous bans. Big rigs are back on the main drags, putting pedestrians, two-wheelers, and kids at risk. The forum noted that past restrictions worked well, stating, "greatly contributed to the safety and smooth movement of the general public."

City streets are packed. Faster speeds on these cramped routes invite disaster. The forum told authorities to force these trucks onto the four-lane highway whenever possible. They want the police to take immediate action to clear the roads and lower the chance of deadly crashes.
