Dimapur Health Officials Train for Ebola and Zoonotic Disease Outbreaks

Kohima: Dimapur medical officers met at the Chief Medical Officer’s Conference Hall on August 7. They drilled for Ebola Virus Disease and zoonotic outbreaks. The training session focused on rapid response and clinical protocols.

Dr. Ito T. Yeptho, a Medical Officer at District Hospital Dimapur, ran the Ebola segment. He outlined transmission routes, reporting requirements, and infection control. He stressed the importance of early detection. Staff must coordinate with district surveillance units to handle suspected cases effectively.

Dr. K. Pewezo Khalo of the District Hospital Microbiology Laboratory provided the technical run-down. He explained the precise methods for collecting, transporting, and testing suspected Ebola samples. Strict adherence to these protocols is mandatory.

The zoonoses training followed, led by IDSP Epidemiologist Dr. Molungtsungba. He examined the high burden of animal-to-human diseases in the area. His presentation covered rabies, anthrax, and leptospirosis. He argued for an intersectoral effort, stating, "The importance of the One Health approach" must guide prevention and control strategies across health, animal husbandry, and community sectors.

Epibeni, an IDSP Microbiologist, chaired the event. Aomar Imchen, the IDSP Data Manager, wrapped up the proceedings with a vote of thanks. The session aimed to sharpen diagnostic skills and reinforce official reporting mechanisms under the IDSP.
