Kohima: A new three-month tailoring initiative for 60 women and girls from the Dimapur-I Assembly Constituency launched on June 16 at the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) inside the Don Bosco Campus in Dimapur. Known as Empowering Women Through Tailoring, the program focuses on fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods for participants through vocational education.
Dr. Bibiana Lungbila, the director of training at AIDA, opened the event by emphasizing that the course intends to equip attendees with practical abilities while boosting their personal confidence. She noted that the program is designed to create meaningful livelihood opportunities for those involved.
The training curriculum spans several areas of garment production, including machine handling, stitching, measuring, cutting, and finishing techniques. It also incorporates business training to help the participants develop entrepreneurship skills. The initiative operates under the sponsorship of H. Tovihoto Ayemi, who serves as the MLA for the area and Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election for the Government of Nagaland.
During the keynote address, Executive Director Rev. Fr. Dr. Roy George SDB encouraged the trainees to stay focused, noting that "tailoring as a valuable livelihood skill" could offer significant long-term economic benefits to their households. Representative Mharonthung Murry spoke on behalf of the MLA, reaffirming a dedication to skill-based programs that improve the socio-economic conditions of women and youth within the constituency.
