Guwahati: Dima Hasao Police arrested two men and seized over 446 grams of heroin during an anti-drug operation conducted on Wednesday, June 9. Acting on intelligence, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bitu Baishya intercepted a Bolero pickup truck traveling from Silchar near Dolaichunga.
Authorities identified the suspects as driver Kepas Kasa from Meghalaya and his assistant Small Lyngdoh from Assam's Cachar district. A search of the vehicle revealed 36 soap cases filled with narcotics, which were hidden inside a custom chamber built above the fuel tank.
The police seized the contraband, the pickup truck, and two mobile phones from the suspects. Officials stated that the arrest is part of a larger, ongoing effort to curb illegal substance movement in the region. Regarding the enforcement strategy, officials noted: "The latest seizure forms part of Dima Hasao Police's ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking."
Investigators are now working to identify the origin and destination of the shipment while checking for connections to larger drug syndicates. With this recovery, the district police have successfully intercepted approximately five kilograms of heroin throughout 2026.
