Imphal: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge led a march to 7, Lok Kalyan Marg on Tuesday. They demanded answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the alleged NEET paper leak. Security forces blocked the crowd at the high-security zone, forcing the leaders into a sit-in. The protest follows a violent Monday demonstration near Parliament where police used tear gas and lathicharge to disperse students, leaving dozens of officers injured.
Parliament remained gridlocked for the second day of the Monsoon Session. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced repeated adjournments as the Opposition pushed for a debate. Rahul Gandhi slammed the Centre for dodging the issue. He wrote on X, "We have marched to the Prime Minister’s house to demand answers for the brutalities against young students yesterday. The government neither wants to take responsibility nor allow a debate in Parliament."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed for strict punishment for those tied to the leak. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju noted that Modi asked NDA allies to focus on smooth legislative business. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda held a meeting with student representatives. He claimed the discussion stayed cordial and promised a thorough review of their submitted memorandum. Elsewhere, the Delhi High Court ordered authorities to move activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram to continue his hunger strike treatment.
