Chümoukedima Ward-11 Bye-election Records 83.6 Percent Turnout

Kohima: Voters in Chümoukedima Town Council Ward-11 headed to the polls on June 16 for a bye-election that concluded without any reported incidents. By the time voting closed, officials recorded an 83.6 percent turnout among the ward's 677 registered voters.

The vacancy follows the passing of former Councillor Keneisetuo Doze. To fill the seat, the People’s Democratic Alliance partners fielded two candidates, with the BJP supporting Kezhanguto Zhotso and the NPF backing Neichü Kuotsu.

Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner T Lemlila Sangtam commended the political parties, voters, and security personnel for the orderly conduct of the election. She noted that the process remained focused on fairness, stating, "the democratic principle of one person, one vote was strictly upheld throughout the polling process, from the commencement of voting until its conclusion."

While the day remained peaceful, voters experienced slow-moving queues at the polling station. Election officials attributed the deliberate pace to the stringent scrutiny required to verify voter credentials.
