Agartala: Tripura stands to receive a major cash injection under the 16th Finance Commission. Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman confirmed the proposal following a national workshop in New Delhi. The federal plan introduces performance grants and sets a 50:50 split between tied and untied funds. It is a big win for local governance.
Barman praised the shift at Bharat Mandapam. He said, "I sincerely welcome the various positive proposals, including increasing the financial assistance for Tripura, introducing a Performance Grant, and fixing the 50:50 ratio of Tied-Untied Funds, as recommended by the 16th Finance Commission."
The state has already cleared its dues from the 15th Finance Commission. Officials highlighted this as a rare success story among states. Tripura recently hauled in a string of national awards for rural governance, including top honors for e-Governance. Ministers from 18 states gathered at the workshop to iron out the transition details.
The government expects these reforms to clean up local operations. They want a system built on tech and accountability. The goal is simple: stronger villages mean a stronger state.
