Guwahati: Advocates for a separate Bodoland state met in Kokrajhar on May 28 to revive their long-standing push for statehood. The meeting, organized by the Bodo National Students Union (BoNSU), brought together representatives from several regional groups to discuss the future of the movement.
Key attendees included Sanjay Thulung, the chief convener of the Smaller State Coordination Committee, alongside leaders from the Bodoland Janajati Surukha Manch, the All BTAD Gaonburah Association, and the All Bodo Senior Citizens Forum. Former members of the NDFB and volunteer forces were also present to weigh in on the strategy.
Sanjay Thulung confirmed that organizations seeking smaller states across India intend to collaborate to strengthen their shared cause. He stated that the groups plan to open talks with the central government and are prepared to launch democratic protests if their requirements are not met.
BoNSU president Banjit Manjil Basumatary emphasized that many Bodo community members remain unhappy with previous political arrangements like the BAC, BTC, and BTR. He maintained that the quest for a separate state remains active and warned that supporters may pursue more aggressive initiatives to achieve their goals. The organizers described this assembly as the initial phase of their renewed campaign.
