Cachar Police Question Medical College Principal Over Spa Raid

Guwahati: Cachar Police brought in Dr. Bhaskar Gupta for questioning on Friday. Gupta serves as the principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Investigators want to know about his ties to a spa center inside a local shopping mall. Police raided that mall last week. They picked up 28 women during the operation. They suspect the spa fronted for prostitution.

Detectives now focus on who owns the building space. They suspect Dr. Gupta rented a room to one of the two spas currently under scrutiny. Officers grilled Gupta and his wife for ninety minutes at the office of the Superintendent of Police. No charges exist yet. The investigation remains wide open. Investigators are checking if other powerful figures have secret links to these businesses.

Police asked the public to hold their horses until the case concludes. Officials released a brief statement regarding the status of the inquiry. "Cachar Police have appealed to the public not to draw conclusions until the investigation is completed and official findings are released." Authorities continue to sift through rental records to track the money.
