Agartala: A 26-year-old Bangladeshi national was killed in a firing incident involving the Border Security Force along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Unakoti district on Friday evening. The victim, identified as Mujibur Rahman Mujib from Dattagram village, died after BSF personnel intercepted a group allegedly attempting to enter Indian territory for smuggling.
The confrontation occurred near the Latiapura border area in Kailashahar. While Mujib died at the scene, local sources reported that three other individuals sustained injuries but managed to escape back into Bangladesh. Sharifpur Union representative Md Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the casualties, stating, "I have received reports of Mujib's death and injuries to several others during the border firing."
Authorities transported Mujib’s body to the Unakoti District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh officials are coordinating to arrange a flag meeting, after which the remains will be repatriated. The BGB Srimangal Battalion noted that they were in contact with their Indian counterparts to discuss the incident.
Local police and civil administration have launched an investigation into the shooting. Security forces have since heightened their presence along the border to prevent further unauthorized crossings.
