Imphal: Border Security Force Director General Praveen Kumar landed in Manipur on Tuesday to assess security operations. The state remains on edge. Nine people died in separate firing incidents across three hill districts between October 9 and October 10. These killings add to a long-running cycle of ethnic conflict that has claimed over 300 lives since February, leaving 49 missing and thousands displaced.
Kumar held meetings at the Secretariat in Babupara. He sat down with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The DG arrived with a heavy-hitting delegation, including Additional Director General Sumit Sharan of the Eastern Command and Inspector General Ravi Kant from the Mizoram and Cachar Frontier Headquarters.
The BSF chief pushed for professional conduct and tight coordination between security agencies and civil authorities. He pledged the force’s support to stabilize the region. Chief Minister Singh addressed the meetings on social media later that day. He stated, "We deliberated on the prevailing law and order situation in the state. We also discussed matters pertaining to the forthcoming BSF Raising Day celebrations. I appreciate the BSF for their dedicated service and their invaluable role towards maintaining peace, security and border management."
Beyond the high-level briefings, Kumar traveled to the BSF Subsidiary Training Centre in Churachandpur. He inspected preparations for the upcoming BSF Raising Day. Officers there received orders to ensure the event runs without a hitch. The force remains active in managing borders and keeping order as violence between communities continues to flare.
