Guwahati: Hundreds of Bodo protesters swarmed Malgaon on July 12. They blocked the road near the Kokrajhar district border to stop the state from giving away tribal land. The crowd is fighting back against an APDCL power project and the resettlement of 93 evicted Muslim families from Kaimari.
Demonstrators waved placards and screamed for the government to retreat. The land in question sits inside the Greater Malgaon Tribal Belt and Block. This area has held protected status since 1984. Residents argue the state is trampling on constitutional rights by handing it over to utilities and outsiders.
The mood was tense. Protesters chanted slogans throughout the day. They made their stance clear with a grim promise: "We will give our blood, but not our land."
Leaders of the Bodo community demand the total withdrawal of the allotment. They insist the government drop the rehabilitation plan immediately. Agitators promised more protests until officials listen and back down.
