Bimol Akoijam and Ram Madhav Clash Over Manipur Crisis Accountability

Imphal: Congress Lok Sabha MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam challenged the central government over its handling of the Manipur violence. During The Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, he slammed the extended duration of the government-appointed inquiry commission. The probe missed its initial six-month deadline. Akoijam demanded to know who prevents the Government of India from securing the region. He also pushed for answers on illegal highway extortion. He claimed the concerned ministry ignored his parliamentary queries for over 30 days despite his formal letter to the Speaker. He insisted that Delhi-based decision-making fails the Northeast.

BJP National vice-president Ram Madhav countered the critique. He argued that peace requires collective action rather than partisan blame. He rejected the idea that the state faces an external threat. "This is not a fight against an external enemy; it is an issue happening within our own community and within our own state," Madhav stated. He called for a continuation of the tripartite dialogue initiated in Guwahati. He insisted the government remains committed to stability despite ongoing reports of violence.

Madhav agreed that the state must stop armed groups from roaming free. He demanded militants stay in designated camps while warning security forces to protect innocent civilians. He claimed the situation improved since last year. He rejected the notion that the government lacks the will to end the conflict. Both men debated the path to normalcy during the session titled The Manipur Way Ahead.
