Guwahati: Assamese actor and producer Sulakhyana Baruah is stepping into Bollywood. She joins the cast of Ohh My Dog, a new feature film from director Amit Rai. The movie hits theaters nationwide on August 7, 2026.
Rai follows up his success with OMG 2 by telling a story about a kid and a stray dog. The cast includes heavy hitters like Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Geeta Aggrawal Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, and Maahi Rai. Baruah marks this as a major career move.
She is a graduate of St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai and the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Her resume includes acting in Adomya, Maj Rati Keteki, Anunaad, and Rador Pakhi. Those last two titles earned National Awards. She also produced the award-winning regional films Mishing and Sikaisil.
Baruah has spent years at festivals like Cannes and served on committees for the International Film Festival of India. She feels ready for the big screen. Baruah stated, "Working with director Amit Rai and sharing screen space with actors such as Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra and Geeta Aggrawal Sharma was a rewarding experience."
She aims to bring Northeast storytelling to a wider audience. Baruah joins a growing list of talents from Assam moving into mainstream Hindi cinema. She plans to keep pushing regional stories through this new platform.
