Guwahati: Borluit Productions brought the Assamese feature film Dipholu to the big screen on Tuesday night. The premiere took place at Matrix Cinemas in Beltola, Guwahati. It arrives just days before the official statewide release scheduled for October 9.
Director Nekib and producer Jekiv organized the screening for cultural figures, critics, and the film team. The production faced two delays before locking in its current release window. Nekib described the debut as a mix of relief and emotion. "This has been a very personal journey for all of us. At its heart, Dipholu celebrates the beauty of simplicity: our people, relationships and everyday lives," he said.
The story focuses on rural Assamese life, blending humor and social commentary. It marks the first feature-length project for Borluit Productions, a studio previously known for short films like Rong and Akaax Bisari. The cast features Subrat Deori in his acting debut, alongside Amrita Gogoi, Arun Nath, Arun Hazarika, Purnada Hazarika, Rajib Dowari, Jyotishman Bora, Kanika Nath, Anirban Kalita, Ankur Baidya, Dr Hitesh Baruah, Simashree Borah, Priyanshi Kashyap, Dibyapratim Bhagawati, and guest star Mridula Baruah.
Music plays a primary role in the production. Jekiv composed the songs while Polash Gogoi managed the background score. The soundtrack holds historical significance, featuring the late Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika on the track Xorogi Xopun. Zubeen Garg also joins Rupali Kashyap for Prem Baru, with additional vocals by Rakesh Reeyan and Montumoni Saikia. Amrita Gogoi encouraged fans to support local art, citing Garg's famous belief in Assamese cinema.
