Guwahati: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has taken eight government officials into custody following an investigation into financial irregularities at the Assam Fishery Development Corporation Ltd. The arrests stem from a case originally filed in 2023, leading authorities to conduct coordinated search operations across Guwahati, Nalbari, Dhubri, and Nagaon.

Among those detained are two Assam Civil Service officers, Anuradha Adhikary Sarma and Naren Chandra Basumatary. Both individuals previously served as managing directors of the corporation, with Basumatary currently holding the position of joint secretary in the state's Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The list of those apprehended also includes former executive engineers Jyotish Saikia and Birinchi Adhikary, alongside several former employees who held technical and project roles within the organization.

This operation reflects a broader effort by state authorities to address systemic graft within the bureaucracy. The arrests follow the recent detention of another high-ranking official, Lachit Kumar Das, who was caught with substantial cash and fixed deposits. Officials confirmed that investigations remain active as they pursue further leads in these cases of suspected corruption.
