Aizawl: The 23 Sector Assam Rifles and the Territorial Army recently hosted a grand celebration to mark the 99th birthday of Havildar (Retired) Lalbiakthanga Pachuau, a distinguished World War II veteran and celebrated journalist. The event, held on Wednesday, paid tribute to a man who remains a prominent figure in both military history and the Indian media landscape.
Born in 1927, Pachuau served with the 3rd Battalion of the Assam Regiment for 17 years before opting for voluntary retirement. Following his military career, he transitioned into an impactful life dedicated to literature, social service, and journalism. He is currently recognized by the Mizoram Journalists Association as the oldest working journalist in India.
In honor of his remarkable journey, the celebration included a ceremonial band tribute, a heartfelt devotional service, and the screening of a documentary detailing his life's work. Brigadier Puspendar Sorayan, DIG of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles, lauded the veteran, noting that his dual legacy of military valor and civic contribution serves as an enduring inspiration for future generations.
