Guwahati: Assam Police collared two drug peddlers in Sribhumi district yesterday. Officers raided the Sharifnagar area and pulled 10,000 banned intoxicating tablets from the suspects. The haul marks a heavy blow to local trafficking operations.

Authorities identified the men as Asit Pal and Mahir Ahmed. Police moved in after receiving intelligence regarding an illegal shipment moving through the area. They took the pair into custody and filed formal charges under state drug laws. The tablets are now locked in police evidence.

This bust fits into a larger, aggressive push against narcotics across the Barak Valley. Agencies are currently hunting for the kingpins behind this shipment. Investigators are working to track the origin of the pills to see if these men are tied to a bigger operation. A police official noted that "further investigation is underway to identify the source of the consignment and any possible links to a wider drug network."
