Assam Police Probe Extortion Racket Involving Seized Vehicle

Guwahati: Morigaon police launched a probe into an extortion racket after a gang allegedly shook down a driver to free a seized truck. The trouble began on the night of September 23 when a group intercepted a vehicle carrying boiler residue and fish feed near Khetri Police Station. The truck was headed from Guwahati when the suspects forced the crew to stop. They then allegedly beat the driver and his worker.

Arjun Debnath of Chuturadal village filed a formal complaint at Jagiroad Police Station. He claims the men demanded 25,000 rupees to spring his rig from police custody. The complaint names three suspects: Saddam Ali, Dilo Hussain, and Jitu Moni Saikia. Debnath says he sent 4,000 rupees and 7,000 rupees to Saikia through online transfers, then handed over the rest in cash.

Police are now digging into the assault and the alleged bribe scheme. While investigators vet the claims, the accused remain under the microscope. Law enforcement confirms that "the allegations are under investigation, and the accused have not been established guilty."
