Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wants to break the gridlock in Guwahati. He announced plans to build a network of satellite cities to soak up the capital's population growth. These new hubs will spread the burden of the state's urban expansion.
The Guwahati Smart City Development Authority takes the lead on this project. They handle the planning, design, and financing for these developments. Officials expect this to fix traffic and raise the standard of living for locals. The state government sees this as the key to sustainable regional growth.
Sarma shared the vision online on July 9. "The next phase of Guwahati's urbanisation will be a network of thriving, interconnected satellite cities to help decongest the capital and improve the ease of living," he said. The move aims to cut pressure on existing city infrastructure while boosting economic reach.
