Guwahati: Biswanath police arrested nine people during a night-long sweep across the district. The group includes seven women and two men. Authorities allege they are Bangladeshi nationals who lived in the area for a long time.

Police identified the suspects as Nabijal Khatun, Chahar Khatun, Mamoni Begum, Rahima Begum, Champaful Khatun, Fatema Khatun, Akbar Ali, Nurjamal Sheikh, and Shahida Khatun. Teams searched several locations from Sunday night into Monday morning. The move follows an intensified crackdown on illegal infiltration.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met with senior superintendents of police to order stricter enforcement. The Biswanath Senior Superintendent of Police held a press conference to confirm the arrests. "Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation," officials said.

Investigators are still checking backgrounds. They need to verify identities and true nationality. Police operations remain active throughout the district.
