Assam Moves to Restore Declining Kolong River

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma approved a proposal to revive the Kolong River. Water flow has dropped significantly over the years. Parts of the waterway sit nearly defunct. Kaliabor MLA and minister Keshab Mahanta confirmed the state is now hiring a high-level institution to run research and build a master plan.

Experts will design a system to regulate the flow. They need to figure out exactly how to bring the river back to life. Mahanta stated, "The process has begun to engage a reputed high-level institution to conduct research and prepare a comprehensive plan for the river's revival."

Crews are currently cleaning the water and fighting pollution. These steps aim to fix environmental damage and boost the health of the local ecosystem. Officials have not set a specific timeline or framework for the final project yet.
