Guwahati: Assam ministers are hitting the ground. They are working to push relief into flood-ravaged districts across the state. Minister Atul Bora inspected the damage in Jorhat on July 31. He walked through Elengmara No. 2 Pohumara and Elengmara Khutiyapata, part of the 38 No. Baligaon Gaon Panchayat. The Bhogdoi River caused the mess. He ordered officials to speed up relief efforts immediately.
The delegation included Teok MLA Bikash Saikia, Additional Chief Secretary B. Kalyan Chakravarty, and other department heads. They met with local residents to gauge the scale of the disaster. Meanwhile, over in Golaghat, the situation is grim. Floods hit 40,830 people across 117 villages. Four revenue circles reported widespread destruction. Nearly 2,969.44 hectares of crops are underwater. Roads and homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana sustained heavy damage.
Bora met with Cluster Level Federations on August 1 to discuss the ruin in Bokakhat, Koliapani, Komarbandha, and Kakodonga. He looked at how to help self-help groups recover their lost livelihoods. He will bring these findings to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The goal is to get help to families fast.
Sivasagar faces a massive agricultural crisis. Minister Pijush Hazarika confirmed one lakh families are affected there. About 60,000 families lost crops. The government is hunting for backup plans for farmers who missed the season. They are prepping paddy seeds and fruit saplings. They might push for rabi crops instead. Hazarika stated, "Many people may not be able to cultivate their fields this year due to the impact of the floods. Therefore, the state government is considering alternative farming options." Officials are now finalizing a list of every affected farmer to ensure the aid reaches the right people.
