Guwahati: A District and Sessions Court in Assam has sentenced Tolon Das to life imprisonment for the murder of a neighbor in 2021. Judge Kaushik Hazarika delivered the verdict, which also includes a fine of Rs 20,000. If Das fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional six-month prison term.

The homicide occurred on May 14, 2021, in Balijan Kacharigaon, located within the Dhekiajuli police station area of Sonitpur district. Prosecutors stated that a personal disagreement between the two men turned into a deadly confrontation. During the fight, Das struck his neighbor, Swapnil Das, in the head with a sharp weapon.

The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after the assault. The victim’s mother, Shanti Das, filed a formal complaint the following day, which prompted local police to arrest the accused. Reflecting on the judicial outcome, court officials confirmed that after "examining the evidence and hearing the case, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment."
